Birmingham Voluntary Service Council
BVSC supports volunteers and provides volunteering opportunities across the city and runs two projects as part of bWell Birmingham.
Volunteering 4 Employment
This project supports unemployed people with mental health issues and low self esteem/self worth to explore volunteering as a therapeutic tool to increase self-confidence, self-esteem and to improve their employment prospects.
The project is open to anyone aged 18+ who is not currently in employment. We will discuss with participants what they’d like to achieve through volunteering and help find an opportunity that suits them. All placements organisations have undergone thorough checks to ensure that volunteers will receive the appropriate level of support. There are a wide range of opportunities including:
- Sports Development
- Retail
- Administration
- Recycling & Environmental
- Outdoor activities
- Advice and Support
During the project participants will receive support with travel expenses and in some cases, Child Care costs. In addition to support from the placement provider, volunteers will also receive regular contact from BVSC volunteer centre staff to ensure the placement is progressing well.
Once a participant has completed 30 hours of volunteering, they are guaranteed a reference from the placement. We will evaluate their volunteering experience and offer further support depending on whether they’d like to earn a qualification, keep volunteering or find employment.
